Dear Friend of Issues, Etc.,

In the name of Jesus, Who came, born of a woman, Who still comes to us in His Word and Sacraments and Who will come again to judge the living and the dead, greetings!

Advent is the season of anxious expectation for Jesus’ final coming. It is impossible for us to know of Jesus’ first coming without anxiously awaiting his final coming. Paul writes:

We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him…For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. (1 Thessalonians 4:14, 16)

Moreover, as Jesus continues to come to us and forgive our sins in the Word and Sacraments, He continues to strengthen our faith in the promise of His return. This is why the Church continuously prays, Come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20)

The season of Advent is really a microcosm of the whole Christian life: repentance, forgiveness, and faith in the Savior Who came, Who still comes and Who will come.

Issues, Etc. proclaims Jesus Who came, Who still comes and Who will come again. The message of Jesus’ incarnation, perfect life, death, resurrection and return is the message that Issues, Etc. broadcasts to the Church and the world.

As I have so many times, I ask to you pray for Issues, Etc. I also ask for the support of your financial gifts. Issues, Etc. is entirely supported by you, our listeners. Please consider supporting Issues, Etc. with a year-end, tax deductible gift or by becoming a monthly contributor for 2004.

Dear Friend of Issues, Etc.,

In the name of Jesus, through Whom God gives us everything needful for this life and the next, Who is the first fruits of the resurrection harvest, greetings.

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.
God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.

Thanksgiving is a time for the Church to remember all three articles of her Creed.  God the Father richly and daily provides us with all that we need to support this body and life. God the Son provides us with all that is needed for salvation —forgiveness of our sins through his holy and precious blood.  And God the Holy Spirit calls and gathers us and will on the last day raise us up in the harvest of the resurrection.

Thus, we are comforted in everything God does for us and also comforted by the promise of the final harvest. Issues, Etc. exists to bring this message of life-long and eternal comfort in Jesus Christ to the world.  We Preach Christ and Him Crucified!

Please consider supporting the worldwide outreach of Issues, Etc. with a special Thanksgiving contribution, or by becoming a monthly contributor for 2004.

Gather Thou Thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin,
There, forever purified, in Thy garner to abide;
Come, with all Thine angels come, raise the glorious harvest home.

Thank you for your generous support of Issues, Etc.!  Pray for us that we might continue Defending the FaithTeaching the Truth!

Dear Friend of Issues, Etc.,

Are you being dumbed-down?

When you watch TV, when you listen to the radio or even when you go to church, are you being encouraged and equipped to think or merely to feel?

The Christian Church once produced the keenest minds of the ages.  Now Christians are notorious anti-intellectuals.  Many churches seem more concerned with “what works” than with “what is true”.  False teaching flourishes among the Biblically illiterate and theologically ignorant.  The only remedy to this is an educated, thinking Christian.

Issues, Etc. is “Talk Radio for the Thinking Christian”.  We are convinced that Christians need to be able to think —and think critically— about what they hear on TV, radio and yes, even in church.  Issues, Etc. educates and equips the Priesthood of all Believers so that they can engage an unbelieving and skeptical world and a church filled with mindless pietism.

In order to continue and expand this work, Issues, Etc. needs to be able to rely on a group of faithful and regular supporters like you.  We are excited about the implementation of a monthly giving program for Issues, Etc.!  Please consider structuring your future support of Issues, Etc. by becoming a Confessor, an Apologist or a Reformer.

Dear Friend of Issues, Etc.,

In the name of Jesus, Who has tasted death for everyone and lives that all might live — greetings.

My favorite Lenten hymn captures perfectly the proper focus for the Lenten season:

Christ the life of all the living, Christ, the death of death, our foe,
Christ, yourself for me once giving, to the darkest depths of woe:
Through your suff’ring, death and merit, life eternal I inherit.
Thousand, thousand thanks are due, dearest Jesus, unto you.

Lent is often thought to be a season for focusing upon oneself, one’s sin and one’s guilt. This is something of a misunderstanding. The proper focus of Lent is Jesus Christ, the Savior of guilty sinners. And while Lent is a season of repentance for sin, it is also a season of thanksgiving for sins forgiven!

In this way, Lent is really a microcosm of the whole Christian life. In fact, Lent especially teaches that Jesus Christ, crucified and risen from the dead, IS our life.

This is why the focus of Issues, Etc. is always upon Christ and Him crucified. This is why we continue Defending the Faith and Teaching the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This Gospel outreach of Issues, Etc. is entirely listener supported. As we walk together through the season of Lent, we ask that you would be generous with Issues, Etc.  Please prayerfully consider supporting Issues, Etc. with a gift. You can write us at:

Or you can make a credit card donation by calling our resource line at 1-800-737-0172.

Issues, Etc. also needs your prayers as well as your financial gifts.

Our promise to you, our listeners, is that we will continue to be "A Voice in the Wilderness of American Evangelicalism."

Thanking you in advance for your prayerful support, I remain…
